The Difficulty of Being Human
By: Kitty
OH MY! Perhaps one of or possibly the most difficult thing about being human is dealing with the fact that, while we are all the same species, we are all different. We all see things the way we see them for various reasons. Whether we are born with our outlook or it is learned, is of no consequence. The point being this. Everyone has their own opinion about everything. Obviously I am talking about this Billy and Chuck situation.
I have explored various internet sites and discussed this issue with friends. WOW! What an assortment of opinions I have found. So I have decided that I will not argue the point or take a side in this column. I will only attempt to point out the arguments objectively.
In our society homosexual interaction between two men is not overwhelmingly accepted at this point. As brother D-Von said about that Adam and Even not Adam and Steve thing. It seems that a majority of the opinion I have heard and read reflect this sympathy. Many are disgusted and repulsed at the site of two men expressing such affection. While lesbianism is not looked at in quite the same disgust. I have heard many say that two men is just "not natural." And yet I have also heard that it is quite natural for two women to "be together." Why? Is it because in the porn films the women are with men also in the next skit? Let me end this soap box before I get too far into that double standard issue and reflect on my thesis.
Some feel that the whole thing is too stereotypical to even be taken seriously. What I find rather interesting is the reaction of die hard Billy Gunn fans. ( I have for a long time been a Billy fan. I long for the days of New Age Outlaws, Mr. Ass, and the Road Dogg.) From the beginning of this gimmick they have been debating whether they liked this or not. WWE has never just flatly stated that it was a "gay" ( an overused and abused term) gimmick. It has mostly been implied. And even at this point it could almost be implied. After the initial shock and confusion Billy fans decided that it got him TV time and it would all pretty much pan out someway. I don't think anyone saw this one coming. Now with this new issue Billy fans are once again shocked and confused. Many are still clinging to the idea that it gets him on TV. I must admit that it does cause controversy and drama, which is what gets interest and ratings. Isn't that what we have all been griping about. Well this might just spice things up a notch.
I have also heard and read that it really is just the fair thing to do. It is true that homosexuality exists. We cannot close our eyes and make it not. We might not want to see it, but then you have to consider would a gay man be interested in watching Nidia and Jamie Noble make out every week? This is what I think is most difficult for people to consider. It is always more difficult to put yourself in the shoes on the other side. It certainly takes a very open mind.
The world and time we live in is very different and in many ways very new. Times change, things change, and people change. With all the uncertainty in politics and in life shouldn't we all make more effort in unity? We are only here once. Shouldn't we make the best of it? That means trying to accept others and move on. However, with this idea there are so many buts, and what abouts that it is almost an endless discussion. Does that mean everyone should accept everyone else? Should we accept racists? Radical fundamentalists? Sex Offenders? Does that mean to accept all these people we have to accept homosexuality too? It can get down right confusing.
Then there is the question of can people really control what or who they like? Consider this about yourselves. Have you ever dated someone of a different race? Religion? Political group? Have you ever been attracted to someone of the same sex? I don't mean just sexually. Really stop and think about it. What if your brother/sister or best friend does any of these things? Anything that would be deemed out of the norm? How did you or would you really feel about it?
These are things to consider when looking at the world around you and dealing with being human. Many would and do argue morality on many of these points. It isn't right because my God says so, because it is in the Bible . . . and so on. On this matter I cannot help but give a brief opinion. In hopes of not offending anyone. If we have to talk about the Bible or any religious book similar to it about this issue, then we have to go to that place about who really wrote it and how women are defined. That is a place I will not go. This is not the time, nor place. Bible thumping and preaching is not a real answer to any question I have posed in this column.
There are pros and cons to every issue. I don't believe that there is any way to say what is right and wrong. We can only see what we think is good or bad. Is it a threat to everyone? Well then what do we do about it?
Finally I say consider this. It is wrestling. It is entertainment. If there is something I don't want to see, like the entire Un-American gimmick, I flip the channel or turn away. Personally I am not interested in watching Terri and Stacy in a pillow fight match. When WCW was still on I usually flipped over to it when Stone Cold was on. Not one of my favorites. It is my right and my prerogative. Just as it is up to me and everyone else to not watch when Billy and Chuck are on. Simply said, We have all vented our thoughts on this matter and now we must move on!
I have heard rumors that Billy will not go through with this and he will defect to RAW. Time will tell. In the meantime, lets all view this as just any other story line. You either like it and watch it or you donāt like it and turn away. Either way I am sure that most of us are saying, "I am glad it isn' Sean." lol. While we eagerly and patiently await his return.
It really is all about Sean and I have spent way too much time thinking about Billy and Chuck.

Okay so I apologize. I really tried not to add in any of my opinion. It is very difficult to write without opinion.
