Wow and War
By: Kitty
First let me start with the Wow part of this column. If there was a such thing as Wow! awards the winners would be Johnny Stamboli and Jerry "The King" Lawler. I have really been paying attention to Johnny Stamboli's matches lately. I have to admit I really enjoy watching him. I dig the FBI gig. I don' know much about Nunzio, but "The Bull" and Chuck are great in the role. Let me take you back to Velocity, airdate 3/1/03. Johnny had a match against Chavo Guerrero. Now I have never been a fan of Eddie's, but Chavo is cool and a cutie too. Anyway, the best part of the match and the Wow portion came when Chavo got Johnny in a schoolboy by pulling his trunks. Whoa! Nice butt crack Johnny! He gets one Wow and one MEOW from the kitty.
On to the King's Wow . . . Every now and then I watch Confidential. Usually it is a rerun or something I just don' want to see. I like Mean Gene and I love to watch the little eyeball move around. It cracks me up. Earlier this month they did a story on Jerry Lawler. I had no idea that he was such a talented artist. His art is incredible. I have wanted to go to Memphis for quite some time now. Mostly to check out University of Memphis and the great Egyptian Museum it is connected to. Elvis is okay, but man Memphis is loaded. I would gladly skip the tour of Graceland to go the Jerry's house any day.
I recently discovered another Wow and though it does not relate directly to wrestling or Sean, I really want to share this with you guys. (I bet if we tried we could link it.) In 1964 forty-one year old Stephanie Kwolek was working at Dupont Chemicals as a chemist. In her work she invented the material, which has become invaluable to police and military personnel alike. The material was Kevlar. It was not manufactured until 1971. In 1986 Stephanie Kwolek retired with 17 patents. Next time an uninformed man starts spouting off about how stupid women are you can tell him how a woman is responsible for the Kevlar vest. Learn more at http://wwwinventorsmuseum.com/StephanieKwolek.htm
Sorry guys! Not all of you are uninformed, but you know which ones of you are.
From Wow to What the? I really couldn't resist sharing this one either. R. Kelly's new album title is Chocolate Factory. Given Mr. Kelly's legal troubles this is a loaded title. I mean, you know. Candy little girl? Oh, how awful.
Now to War. I do not intend to make this column a political forum. However, I do want to be serious for a moment. We are my friends, at War. Regardless of my opinion or yours, the United States and Coalition forces are invading IRAQ as I type and as you read. Since troops are there all we can do now is pray for their safety and success. It is our governments that have decided to take us to this level. Whether we support them or not in their decisions is now irrelevant. There are many people who visit SOC and other Sean sites and groups, who are from various countries. To all I say welcome and thank you. Thank you for being an O'Haire fan and joining in to support him. Free from prejudice or judgment based on origin, race, etc. Being Sean O'Haire fans we are united in a common bond. Some see the internet as an evil tool. A tool to divide society and contribute to the decline in social engagement and connectedness. I disagree. I see the internet, especially what we do here, as a tool to unite, to engage, and way to feel connect or part of a group. We are able to connect with people we otherwise would never know about. Why? Because we have this common interest.
The first few days of the war I have been glued to CNN when I am at home. It is frightening and sickening. I could not wait for RAW. As me and my wrestling buddy Vicky sat watching I realized that I had forgotten all about CNN. We had escaped the harsh reality of the insane world in which we live. Thinking about the vignettes that Sean has had I realized the depth and intensity of his character. He isn't just being an instigator or devil's advocate. Think about what he is saying. Go beyond the surface. I think that in essence he is daring us to think about our lives. Think about how we live. How we get caught up in everyday tasks. How we don't take time out for ourselves. To enjoy life. To question. To ask, why does it have to be this way? We should slow down and taste the coffee, smell the flowers, feel the wind and the warmth of the sun. Maybe there are times to be selfish and indulge. We should stop and think about how we feel and what we believe. We shouldn't just do it or go along with it because everyone else does. By no means am I saying stop being a responsible citizen, friend, or family member. I am not saying revoke your rights and become an anarchist. Start with the small things. Take time for you. If you are happy, everyone around you will be happier. If you like yourself, others will like you more. Take the time from your busy schedule and help someone in need. I may be rambling and for this I apologize. In my mind I am escaping the real world by way of wrestling. At the same time I am returned to the real world by the words of Sean. Maybe I have unrealistic ideals of what a better world this could be. Maybe I am one of those dreamer's that John Lennon sings about in "Imagine." But I can't stop dreaming and the only way I can end this rabble is with a quote from Kirk Douglas. Mr. Douglas said, "Until we become nicer people, there will be no peace in this world"
Back to wrestling. In the past few weeks SOC message board has picked up a couple more members. I hope to see more participating on the board soon. I think we can say that Sean will be back on TV regularly very soon. I have to wonder though if OVW is going to leave his departure as is? I thought for sure when Smackdown was taped in Louisville that we would see Kenny Bolin and the rest of BS. WWE is once again plagued with a lot of injured major players. This of course leaves many open spots for the newer talent. I see John Cena making a major splash in his relentless pursuit of Brock Lesnar. Word Life! So glad that Brian Kendrick now has himself a spot of Smackdown. He is quite an impressive little fellow. Really looking forward to seeing what becomes of Trish and Jeff Hardy. HMMMM! As for Wrestlemania? Don't care about McMahon/Hogan. Hope they both retire. Hope Stone Cold kicks the Rocks Ass! Just for old times sake really. I love the Rock and I sympathize. I know that tattoo had to hurt like hell. My new one has finally healed and it isn't a fourth the size of his new one. It hurt like hell long past the three hours it took to get it. Booker T over HHH, please! Poor G-G-G-G-Goldie! Trish over Psycho and Jazz. Lesnar over Angle! Wouldn't it be nice if Sean interfered in every match! If we could be so lucky. Looking forward to a few more vignettes and then bring him on into live action in the ring.
Finally I just want to mention two video's I watched recently. I finally rented "Beyond the Mat." I really recommend watching this if you haven't already. Be prepared though. If you are old enough to remember Jake "The Snake" Roberts and you were a fan. They bring you up to date with what he does now and look at his drug problem and family life. It is really pathetic. The documentary was done shortly before Droz's injury. It is sad to see him so active knowing that he can even move now. My personal prayers to Droz and hopes that the doctors can help him at least walk again.
The second video is "Boondock Saints." You are all probably familiar with this as being listed as Sean's favorite movie or one of them. If you like action, you will like this one. It sort of falls in the action/drama/comedy category. There are elements of the Godfather and Charles Bronson's Death Wish films. Willem Dafoe is, as always, incredible. He is such a versatile actor. Watch this and then watch Spiderman again. And you thought the Green Goblin was a sick-o!
Until next time,
Kitty
