You'll Fall For BBMak Sooner or Later

Irresistibly charming, strikingly handsome and, who could forget, inarguably talented, British trio BBMak have been capturing the eyes and ears of America for the past several months.  Since the release of their debut album, Sooner Or Later, Ste McNally, Christian Burns and Mark Barry have been catapulted into the limelight with the recent success of their first single, "Back Here" and countless television and live appearences.  Daytime television fans are still talking about the group's three-episode stint on All My Children.  And if you were lucky enough to snag coveted tickets for the Britney Spears tour, you surely noticed BBMak belting out their captivating sound during their opening gig.

While the group may seem like an overnight success, these guys have learned the meaning of hard work and dedication.  Just ask Christian who recently told MTV, "We met over four years ago where we were all in different bands in the Northwest of England.  We were all working, too.  I was a car salesman.   Mark was at college trying to be a fireman.  Steve was a security guard.   At the time, music was a hobby for us, but we decided to take it more seriously.   We got together and started writing some songs, for about a year and a half, and we packed out jobs in.  Sacrificed everything.  We had no money, but we knew what we wanted to do."

Perhaps the reason behind BBMak's widespread appeal comes from their eclectic taste in music.  Each member brings a different sound to the group which blends together into a unique and addicting sound.  "the influence for me is soul," explains Mark.  "Christian's more of the pop side and Ste's got the rock side.  So with the three of us together, you get the soul with the harmonies, the rock with the production and the pop with the melodies.  It's a good mixture."  The mixture is so good, in fact, that critics are having a difficult time categorizing BBMak into a specific grouping.  At first glance many people would lump these guys into the boy band category, but musically, as they explain, it's another story.  Mark, Ste and Christian play a large part in writing and producing their own music, as well as playing their own instruments.  "It's funny because you got bands like the Goo Goo Dolls and Sugar Ray, and then you've got bands like 'N Sync and 98º, and nothing in the middle.  We're sort of in the middle" says Christian.

One thing BBMak does have in common with their male musical counterparts is that their lyrics largely revolve around the topic of love and relationships.  Old ones, new ones and those you just can't forget.  "I think love is a subject that everyone can realte to so that's what we write most about.   Most of our songs are either happy love songs or sad love songs," says Ste.

Whether their music continues to contemplate love or not, one thing's for sure, BBMak's future is only getting brighter.  With bigger and better things on the horizon, these guys are grateful for what they have accomplished and thankful for being blessed with careers they love.  "I just love the fact that I can write songs with the guys and go on stage and perform," says Ste.  "To get the chance to do that as my job, it's the best thing in the world."
